From a grassy swale to a lined drain

About this timelapse

Construction Timelapse and Building engineering: a lined drainage channel takes shape between two fields. The build starts on the grass strip, opens the trapezoidal trench, pours the near invert, then completes the side walls and low headwall until water runs in the finished drain.

This AI architecture keeps the work at farm scale and readable in one frame. On site, gravel, timber forms, and grey concrete follow a clear engineering sequence. The infrastructure stays small and useful, carrying field runoff while the dirt track and poplar row remain in place.

Watch the transformation through to the thin sheet of water and subscribe to Rapid Build Lab for the next timelapse.

The images used to create the video

Single static realistic photograph for a vertical 9:16 YouTube Shorts frame in a construction timelapse. Fixed camera about 1.6 meters high, slightly elevated, looking diagonally toward the back of the scene: grassy foreground close to the lens, a central strip of ground about twenty meters long, a row of mature poplar trees in the right background, and an agricultural dirt path along the left edge. Fixed environmental anchors: the dirt path along the left edge, the row of poplars in the right background, and an isolated pale wooden pole at the far left corner. Late-afternoon light, low sun from the left, long soft shadows, clear sky with a few high clouds, natural photographic rendering, depth of field sufficient to read the ground and the anchors, palette of greens, ochre and light gray. The central strip is a low meadow with a slightly marked natural depression, ochre earth visible in patches, and short grass along the edges, while the dirt path stays intact. A free grass margin surrounds the central strip. The meadow is open, with no people and no vehicles.

Late-afternoon light, low sun from the left, long soft shadows, clear sky with a few high clouds, natural photographic rendering, depth of field sufficient to read the ground and the anchors, palette of greens, ochre and light gray. In the central strip an open trapezoidal excavation runs eighteen meters, 1.6 meters wide at the top and 0.7 meters deep, with its axis running from the near center toward the right in depth. In the half nearer the camera the floor is already a gray concrete slab 0.8 meters wide, with a float-finished surface, and wooden-plank formwork still fixed on both banks; the reinforcement cages of the banks stand upright, but the walls are not poured. In the far half the excavation remains open, with only a bed of pale gravel and the formwork not yet installed. Two workers in white helmets and yellow jackets stand on the near left bank, beside the excavation, without covering the boundary between the finished slab and the open section. A wheelbarrow and a bundle of planks rest on the grass to the right. Free grass remains around the excavation.

The drainage channel is complete and fully visible, eighteen meters long, trapezoidal in section, with a bottom 0.8 meters wide, a top 1.5 meters wide and a depth of 0.7 meters. Bottom and banks are exposed gray concrete with regular joints. At the near end a low concrete head wall closes the stretch and lets a thin sheet of clear water out downstream. Water a few centimeters deep flows along the entire bottom, making the drain readable. Formwork, exposed reinforcement, the wheelbarrow and the workers are absent. A narrow gravel strip borders the banks, and free meadow remains around the channel.
